This latest makeup of the adidas Originals Mutombo is a radical departure from the original design, gaining a contemporary sleek sheen while losing some of its defining exterior traits. The tribal pattern is gone from the quarter panel — though it’s still engraved onto the heel panel — and patent leather confers an entirely new look to the high-top silhouette. Otherwise, Dikembe’s shield logo remains on the tongue and his 55 uniform number has likewise been kept intact. Finished in an appealing black and navy color scheme, the kicks are available now through Caliroots’ SIX FEET DOWN sneaker shop.
