FOR her first outing as creative director at Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton paid respectful homage to the late designer for whom she worked with for 16 years – rekindling the eccentric and English gentleman spirit of his collections past via tops and tails, belted trench coats, theatrical frock coats and vivid prints in genetic patterns.
There was the introduction of new shapes – but it was subtle. We had trousers in baggy shapes and size and they later wandered into utilitarian territory too. This collection wasn’t going to be about making dramatic waves – further illustrated by Burton’s decision not to take a bow at the end of the presentation. Photos vogue.co.uk
