After a recently under-the-radar existence, John Galliano is marking his return to the fashion world as the creative director of Maison Martin Margiela. Galliano, who formerly worked as head designer of Dior until being dismissed from the label in 2011 for anti-Semitic remarks (which he later blamed on drugs and alcoholism), is projected to showcase for Margiela this coming January for Paris Couture Week—and will subsequently be in control of all of Margiela’s collections.
“Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul,” said Renzo Rosso, president of Only The Brave, the company that owns Margiela.
Galliano’s last involvement in a fashion show was for Oscar de la Renta—when de la Renta himself asked Galliano to help out with the Autumn/Winter 2013 collection.
Renzo went on to say that “John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time—a unique, exceptional couturier for a Maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion. I…wish him to here find his new home.”
