Neil Barrett’s show at the Palazzo del Senato, styled by Dazed’s Robbie Spencer, segued outdoors and in, with a clear curtain dividing the cloister from the courtyard. Barrett’s clothes too played with slicing, with sweatshirts in graphic red, white and black a mix of textural and techy fabrics.
This designer is picking up pace as the one to go to for perceptive, ideal versions of existing styles, such as his trickle-up MA-1 with the (expensive) look of duchesse satin, more elegant than tough nylon. The soundtrack featured remixes of Joy Division and Grauzone, a cold 80s feeling, and whilst the clothes kept that cool, there’s nothing cold about this designer, having invited a selection of editors, journalists and stylists into his home afterwards for an informal dinner – and plenty of champagne.
