Challenging convention, Ruthie Davis rewrites the rules governing modern elegance and glamour – luxurious yet wearable, feminine but unfussy, modern but never cold, her footwear designs skillfully manage a combination of refinement and sensuality. As a New York City resident and Creative Director and President of her eponymous label, she understands how to design shoes modern women covet.
At Maine’s Bowdoin College, Davis majored in English Literature and Visual Arts, water-coloring images of buildings, furniture and shoes. She went on to earn her MBA from Babson, in hopes of forging an independent fashion label of her own. Davis then honed her design skills at Reebok, UGG Australia and Tommy Hilfiger before launching Ruthie Davis in 2006.
The Ruthie Davis collection is distributed in top retail doors worldwide including Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Harvey Nichols, Luisa Via Roma and 10 Corso Como, spanning over 40 countries and 100 locations. Designed in New York and handcrafted in Italy, Ruthie Davis shoes are celebrated for their effortless ability to imbue any wardrobe with a dash of cosmopolitan aplomb.
Since her launch, Davis’s shoes have been a top choice of celebrities and fashion tastemakers including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Karolina Kurkova, Jessica Chastain, Emma Roberts and Naomi Campbell. Her designs have been featured in New York Fashion Week runway presentations by Alice + Olivia, Dennis Basso, David Meister, and Doo Ri among others.
In a recent retrospective titled, COUTURE FUTURISTIC DESIGN, the New Britain Museum of American Art recognized Davis’s impact on modern design and exhibited her original sketches and shoes. In 2012, she was invited to design a capsule collection for Swarovski Elements “Sparkling Contrasts”, which was showcased in Beijing, Milan and Kuwait. When not designing, Davis dedicates much of her time to mentoring emerging designers and entrepreneurs, whether it be teaching a course at FIT, or lecturing at MIT’s Sloan School of Business. ruthiedavis.com
