One of the latest attractions on the AutoStadt (Automotive City, www.autostadt.de), in Wolfsburg, Germany is the a pavillion disigned British architect Stephen Williams (www.stephenwilliams.com), with artwork by Olaf Nicolai and artistic installations of Anselm Reyle and Peter Zimmerman. The Premium Clubhouse comes as the site for display of Volkswagen’s multi brand luxury division.
Williams accentuated the elliptical form of the pavillion with a curved walkway that, combined with impecable lighting, threatens our sensation of straightness. The mirror chrome finish of the displayed Bugatti Veyron – one of the fastest cars in the world – brings it all together with a mind distorting cleanliness. A building righteously disigned to devote itself to nest the pinnacle of mechanical engineering. – arch editor andré pinto
