Illuminated Chairs by Lee Broom

Club Chair

The Club chair has a limited release of only ten and is authenticated by an engraved polished brass plaque. Based on a classic chesterfield design, the buttons have been replaced with LED light fittings and capped with a fairground bulb casing. The frame was painstakingly adapted to be able to facilitate all 85 of the light fittings, but the upholstery needed to have the same classic style as an original. The lights are also on six channel phasing unit which means they are programmed to move in the same way a fairground ride would, they can also be programmed to be still. The piece is a juxtaposition of the very formal gentleman’s favourite with end of the pier entertainment. A familiar and iconic item all of sudden becomes very surreal.

Luminaire Bérgere Chair

This original antique Bérgere chair was found in a flea market in North Paris, and brought back to London to form part of this collection. The piece was left unrestored and then adorned in turquoise neon giving it new life but without forgetting its journey. This very unique and  one-off piece has been authenticated with a brass plaque. This piece is now sold, however similar pieces can be commissioned.

Electric Louis

Part of a limited edition of twenty-five, the Electric Louis is hand carved in Mahogany, lacquered to a high gloss finish and then adorned in neon, identified by a silver plaque .

Volkswagen’s Cross Coupe Concept Heading for Production

We were quite impressed with the Cross Coupe concept that Volkswagen unveiled this year at the Tokyo Motor Show, and we’re sure you were too. Actually, the car’s success was so big, that now we hear rumors of a possible production version.

The company’s executives believe that CUVs will gain more and more popularity among customers in the future, and they are giving serious thoughts to creating at least one production version of the alluring concept.

The car is apparently a preview of Volkswagen’s future crossover range, but we believe that this is only true with respect to the car’s looks. We don’t expect the hybrid powertrain (with two electric motors) to also find room on the production lines. At least not yet. Writing by Mary / source luxedb.com

Skull Style: skulls in contemporary art and culture by Patrice Farameh

One of the most ancient symbols used in the history of mankind is shown in the most surprising and modern way in this book. Formerly an emblem of evil and mortality, the skull has been transformed into an avant-garde design element used in the most cutting-edge art, chic interiors and vanguard style of the moment.

Whether embellished on costly T-shirts, woven on limited edition chairs, and even encrusted with diamonds sold at an art auction for $100 million, the skull is no longer just a daunting memento of our frail mortality but a contemporary figure of fashion.

This 500-page book shows how this once morbid trinket of death has been reinvented into the much-desired decoration by the trendsetters of tomorrow.

Persol Vintage Eye Glasses

Persol is an Italian eyewear company specializing in sunglasses. The name is derived from “per il sole,” which, in Italian, means “for the sun.” Formed in 1917 by Giuseppe Ratti, Persol originally catered to pilots and sports drivers. Presently, the company is famous for its durable sports sunglasses. Its trademark is the silver arrow (often referred to as the “Supreme Arrow”), and several of the company’s glasses feature this symbol.

Persol was a heavy influence in the production of sunglasses. The company developed the first flexible stem. This flexible stem system is known as the patented Meflecto system and was one of the first spring hinges ever developed for eyewear. Persol was introduced to the United States in 1962. Its first boutique opened on Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles in 1991. It is currently owned by the Luxottica group. Currently all “plastic” Persol eyewear is hand crafted in Italy using cellulose acetate, a hypoallergenic material derived from cotton.

Steve McQueen popularized two Persol models: the 714 folding sunglasses and closely styled 649. He wore a special pair of 714′s with blue lenses in The Thomas Crown Affair and was often photographed wearing the 649 model. Persol models 2244-S and 2720-S were both worn by Daniel Craig in the James Bond film Casino Royale. Pierce Brosnan wore Persol model 2672-S as James Bond in the film Die Another Day and then Persol model 2720-S in Mamma Mia! Don Johnson wore a Persol 69218 during Season Three of Miami Vice.[1] Persol sunglasses have also been used in other movies, Bill Murray can be seen wearing them in both Lost in Translation and Broken Flowers. One of the most iconic images of Persol sunglasses can be seen in the movie Divorce Italian Style where Marcello Mastroianni wears a pair of black 649s; Mastroianni also has a pair of Persol sunglasses on in almost every scene in the movie La Dolce Vita. In addition Nicolas Cage wears them in Lord of War. Robert Culp, as Kelly Robinson, in the iconic I SPY TV series in the 1960s sported Persols 2656S in many episodes.
