Christian Louboutin Men’s Store, 19 Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau – Paris

Written by Joe “00o00h i want one of those”

last weekend when i was in paris, i made a trip to rue jean-jacques rousseau, home to the first christian louboutin men’s store. the store is situated in a gorgeous covered passage, which reminded me of the burlington arcade in london but less touristy and crowded.

the question you are probably going to ask, is if i saw that pair of christian louboutin x marlon gobel gold spiked shoes. yes i did!

isn’t that amazing! these are shoes fit for a king! i believe the official name is potpourri dandy, only 30 odd pairs were made, and that’s the second last pair in store. since i am not quite willing to lose a kidney just yet, i did the next best thing…

nevermind i wore the wrong trousers and the wrong socks, the shoes were truly magical. these were first featured early last year as part of marlon gobel’s fall winter 2011 collection. quite simply the most amazing runway shoes i’ve seen, and i really want to know who are the lucky collectors.

the store’s quite eclectic in it’s furnishings and decor. an ex-star trek prop sits in one corner, and there’s also a “tattoo parlour” within the store. customers can select certain shoes and customise them the way they like. let’s take a look inside the parlour…

i could literally just move in here already. the most delicious rollerflats in studs studs and more studs! loving the textured walls, as well as the matching studded/spiked display case.

one of my favourite shoes is the mikaraja, named after the singer mika and the maharajah-ness of the shoes. i’ve seen it in black patent leather, which frankly i wasn’t too keen on. however this version in blue canvas is simply stunning. the decorations were all hand sewn by lesage embroiderers in india, known to be the best in the world, from the same skilled artisans who work for chanel, hermes etc.

the store is truly magical, and currently the only shop in the world to carry such a comprehensive line of men’s shoes. it’s just amazing, i wish for a similar store to open in london soon. the second men’s store will soon open in new york’s meatpacking district.

and oh, the icing on the cake will definitely be bumping into the designer himself outside the store. it was a great day! so, seen any shoes you like so far?

Thank you very much, Joe “00o00h i want one of those” ( OOoOO.blogspot.com )  for is a source of Inspiration!

Richard Mille Tourbillon RM 052 Skull Watch

We love skulls! Limited edition of 21 pieces, which includes 15 pieces in titanium and 6 unique set pieces in red or white gold.

CALIBER RM052: manual winding tourbillon movement with hours, minutes. Dimensions: 42.70 mm x 50.00 mm x 15.95 mm. MAIN FEATURES POWER RESERVE Circa 48 hours.

BASEPLATE AND BRIDGES IN GRADE 5 TITANIUM

The RM 052 revolves around the skull. This is fascinating from an artistic point of view, but even more so from a technical point of view. The baseplate has been finished in grade 5 titanium, a biocompatible, highly corrosion-resistant and remarkably rigid alloy, which enables the gear train to function effortlessly. The alloy is 90% titanium, 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium. This combination further increases its mechanical properties, which explains its frequent use in the aerospace, aeronautical and automobile industries.

The upper and lower jaws holds the tourbillon cage jewel. The rear of the skull acts as a central bridge. The “Jolly Roger” comes to life thanks to the 4 bridges that link the movement to the case. The skeletonized baseplate and the bridges have been subjected to intensive and complete validation tests to optimize their resistance capacities.

BALANCE WHEEL WITH VARIABLE INERTIA

The free-sprung balance provides better reliability in the event of shocks, movement assembly and disassembly. It also guarantees better chronometric results over an extended period of time. There is no need for an index plate, allowing more precise and frequent adjustment using 4 setting screws.

FAST ROTATING BARREL (6 hours per revolution instead of 7.5 hours)

This type of barrel provides the following advantages:

The phenomenon of periodic internal mainspring adhesion is significantly diminished, thereby increasing performance. Provision of an excellent mainspring delta curve with an ideal power reserve/performance and regularity ratio.

BARREL PAWL WITH PROGRESSIVE RECOIL

This device permits a profitable winding gain (circa 20 %), especially during the winding start. It is also helpful in the distribution of the mainspring’s internal tension.

WINDING BARREL TEETH AND THIRD-WHEEL PINION WITH CENTRAL INVOLUTE PROFILE

The central involute profile of the winding barrel teeth and pinion provides an optimal pressure angle of 20°. This promotes effective rotary motion and allows for compensation of possible variations in the engagement of the going train thus insuring excellent torque transmission with a distinct improvement in performance.

SPLINE SCREWS IN GRADE 5 TITANIUM FOR THE BRIDGES

This permits better control of the torque applied to the screws during assembly. These screws are therefore unaffected by physical manipulation during assembly or disassembly and age well. This impressive timepiece is available here.

THE DANDY PROJECT

Being dandy isn’t as ancient or stuffy as you might think it to be. In creator Izzy Tuason’s project, which is his blog, you’ll find lots of talk about menswear with a focus on do-it-yourself projects, up-and-coming designers, combined with Filipino bespoke tailoring, a dash of film, music, and pop culture, and a healthy dose of the thought processes behind that go behind clothing and dressing up. Izzy Tuason is a freelance publicist and graduate of the Master of Science program in advertising at Boston University. He is also a freelance fashion writer and stylist for various print and online publications. Tuason has previously worked in media, advertising, and fashion branding. Off-duty as a marketing professional and blogger, he practices Ashtanga yoga, cooks and enjoys good food, writes poetry, and constantly tweets.

Look 1: “THE RODEO DANDY”

Meltin Pot denim MS006 shirt and Misfits jeans, Number Nine shoes, vintage cuff, native American watch band on Casio watch I wanted to lend an air of dandiness to the rugged double-denim look by slicking my hair back clean, stuffing a pocket square into the shirt pocket, and accessorizing with bold native American jewelry.

Look 2: “THE SEASIDE SWEATER”

Meltin Pot navy sweater , vintage DIY cutoff shorts, aviator sunglasses,  Cartier watch and Airedale bracelet, vintage Gucci shoes. This chunky navy Meltin’ Pot sweater reminded me of country clubs and yachts and the seaside. I paired it with my own vintage white cutoff shorts, classic Gucci loafers and a watch from my father.

Look 3: “THE URBAN HUNTSMAN”

Aviator sunglasses, vintage cashmere scarf, Thom Browne cardigan, Meltin Pot olive green MP0011 pants, vintage Florsheim shoes. I loved the fabric and fit on these Meltin’ Pot MP0011 olive green pants, and the color reminded me of an urban huntsman. On a stroll around New York City’s Central Park, I wore it with a plaid cardigan and a thick Scottish cashmere scarf. For more information, click here.
