Perhaps few people know that on the other side of the world, in the Pacific Ocean, there is an island where good music is part of everyday life of the great majority. A place where unique, rare, and many discs are not released in their countries of origin, being found only there. To get an idea, Marcos Valle, João Donato, Azimuth and many other great musicians from Brazil (and the world), have there exclusive releases and reissues of classic albums on CD and LP only in this blessed place. This musicaly blessed is country is Japan.
Yes, in this country music and the art of singing are highly prized. The singing is part of school´s framework subjects since when the children’s first years. With all this cultural appreciation of music, Japan was also known for having great Beatmakers and Dj’s such as DJ Krush, DJ Honda and DJ Kentaro.
But today I come here to talk about another DJ, who is also a producer, born in Sendai (the very affected by the Tsunami). DJ Mitsu The Beats, has his name running the world in a few years of work and is one of the most requested DJ´s in his country.
Known for mixing Hip Hop, Jazz, Downtempo, Soul, Funk, he released his first album in 2003, “A New Awakening” for the label “Jazzy Sport label” in Japan. The album counts whit special feature appearances from: K-Otix, Dwele, Mark Clive Lowe, Rich Medina and many others. The Dj attracted the attention of renowned producers like Pete Rock, Gilles Peterson and DJ Spinna.
The following year he released “Re-New Awakening Part.01″ and “Re-New Awakening Part.02″ compilations with remixes by other producers such as Sa Ra, Wajeed (Platinum Pied Pipers), Medaphor, Kev Brown and Rich Medina. With all this success, he has been asked to do remixes of other artists and labels including: Chocolate Industries, Blue Note, Ubiquity and Universal as well as working alongside Jazzy Jeff, Madlib, Kero One, Diverse and PPP.
In 2009 he released his second album, “A Word To The Wise.” And in 2010 came the “Universal Force”, both with heavy weight participation.
