In April 1994, Supreme opened its doors on Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan and became the home of New York City skate culture. At its core was the gang of rebellious young New York skaters and artists who became the store’s staff, crew and customers.

Supreme grew to be the embodiment of the downtown culture, playing an integral part in its constant regeneration. Skaters, punks, hip-hop heads – the young counter culture at large – all gravitated towards Supreme.

While it grew into a downtown institution, Supreme established itself as a brand known for its quality, style and authenticity.

Over its nineteen year history, Supreme has worked with some of our generation’s most groundbreaking designers, artists, photographers and musicians – all who have helped continue to define its unique identity and attitude.

Skateboard Decks: Chapman Brothers for Supreme

Chapman Brothers for In their latest collaboration New York’s Supreme gets together with the Chapman Brothers on a series of skateboard decks very interesting.

“Jake Chapman, born 1966, and Dinos Chapman, born 1962, are English visual artists, commonly known as the Chapman Brothers. Since 1991 they have been working together as a collaborative sibling duo. Both studied together at the Royal College of Art, during which time they worked as assistants to the renowned artistic duo of Gilbert & George.”

”The Chapman Brothers are a part of the Young British Artists movement of the 1990′s along with Damien Hirst, Chris Ofili, and Tracey Emin, among others, and were participants in the two major internationally acclaimed surveys of the movement Brilliant! and Sensation. Their work is known to be offensive, vulgar, and often controversial. In past works the brothers have appropriated original watercolor paintings of Adolf Hitler’s, as well as a pristine collection of Francisco Goya’s etchings, which they defaced. Their work has also featured decapitated and mutilated bodies, as well as pornographic themes, nazism, death, sex, religion, and commercialism. The artists were nominated in 2003 for the prestigious Turner Prize, and are widely regarded as two of the most influential and important living artists.” supremenewyork.com/news

They will be available in-store in NY, LA, London and online October 11th and in Japan on October 13th.

Skate Moss Art by Jeff Gaudinet

Kate Moss beneath your feet? I hope you use a very expensive sneaker. We really love Kate and we are delighted with this project. Born out of a mispronunciation while discussing both Kate Moss and skateboarding with a close friend, artist Jeff Gaudinet has created “Skate Moss.” The art project sees famous imagery of the model applied to the confines of a skate deck. Gaudinet’s website for the project includes art created by both himself and anyone else interested in participating. A template can be downloaded here with submissions more than welcome.
