An artistic collaboration with stylist Kathi Kauder and photographer Sabrina Theissen. For these mixed media collages Ashkan Honarvar used Vanitas symbols in a search for the equilibrium between life and death.
The woman depicted features different animal eyes, flowers and other body parts. These collage series was published in I Love You Magazine.
Ashkan Honarvar / About the artist :
”The saying goes that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. It occurs in places you least expect. Revealing its art in the human body, but also cruelly absent in the presence of deformations and scars. Ashkan Honarvar (1980) depicts an undeniable, unavoidable beauty by accepting the darker sides of human ‘nature’.”
”The body, torn by acts of war, exploited by the sex industry or used as a tool for seeking identity, is the focal point of his work. This constitutes a search for a universal representation of the evil latent in every human, providing an opportunity for reflection. His aesthetic dissection has an intriguing macabre nature, which opens the images to interpretation.”
”Honarvar’s almost empiric exploration of the human condition knows no bounds. Its goal; the indefinable core. ” Titus Verheijen
Very inspiring! The mural “Simbionte” was done thanks to the collaboration between actitudf.com and MAMUTT.

Executed in 2008, this work is from an edition of 50 unique multiples. In this latest series of 50 painted skulls are three categories manifested as three variations of form: Hallucinatory Head, Hypnotic Head and Transcendent Head, with each skull a unique result of the now famous and highly sought after ‘Spin’ painting technique.
The skull is one of a number of recurring motifs not only in Damien Hirst’s work but also in the history of art, and in this special edition has been reworked back in to his signature. The technique is simple but the result relies on complex ideas about mortality and the history of mankind, touching on specific anthropological and historical readings, with compelling, celebratory and seductive results.
Hallucinatory Head
Transcendent Head
A suggested memento mori of a more uplifting and contemporary slant, Hirst’s proximity to the subject of death is ever fresh, rewarding and daring, seeking to challenge the often morbid art historical approach to the subject. His skulls engage, they fix us with their own kind of gaze, imploring us to see the comedy within them. Here, the image of death is less unknowable, more approachable, a little lighthearted, even, whilst possessing something of an ancient relic or offering to the gods. Influences of the Mexican celebration, Dia de los Muertos, fuse ritual and anthropology with ornament, demonstrating the crux of Hirst’s practice wherein the philosophical and eternal become part of the vocabulary of modern life and modern aesthetic.
210 x 140 x 140 mm / Household gloss on plastic skull / Unique multiple within an edition of 50 / Exclusive to Other Criteria / Damien Hirst

The Chilean artist Fabian Ciraolo, is a great illustrator and graphic design. I enjoy the colors he uses as well as the vintage environment that his pieces create. Some of his work is ironic and very smart. Fabian uses a collage style in all his illustrations. His pieces usually have people with animal heads, super heroes, cartoon characters old, among other unusual things, which I think that goes very well with the colors and the backgrounds he uses.

Video artist Helen Benigson has been commissioned by Adidas to create two unique chairs that will stay in residence at Adidas’ London head-quarters until further notice as part of an ongoing art installation. Helen Carmel Benigson (and her alter ego, rapper Princess Belsize Dollar) is a video artist who layers colours, print, sound and objects to create hyper-hysterical, dream- like, multimedia installations.
”For the print I layered roses that I filmed in South Africa with fireworks I filmed in London for a recent video installation. The print came about as I wanted to collide Adidas with my own creative vision.
Through her combination of print, hyper-real colour and sound, Benigson’s multimedia installations are both visually and sensually stimulating; evocative of music videos, and are described by the artist as ‘energetic, colourful and sexy.”
Helen Benigson was born in London in 1985. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, graduating with first class honours in 2009, and continued at the Slade School of Fine Art to undertake an MA. Benigson currently lives and works in London. Her work has been exhibited in the UK, Israel and South Africa, including an exhibition at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, and a solo exhibition at the Irma Stern Museum, Cape Town.
Thank’s fuckingyoung for this source of inspiration.
Well, what to say about a band made up of nine people, including 8 metal and 1 drummer?! Can you imagine?!
This band is the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, a Chicago native and now a major success worldwide …
Eigth brothers that come from a family of traditional musicians, where beyond them, the sisters and their mother are singers and The father is The musician Phil Cohan, which has his roots in Mississippi. He lived in St. Louis in 40′s, being part of the whole musical culture of the time. In the 50′s he was a member of the legendary jazz band, Sun Ra in Chicago, and in 1960, when the band decided to move to the east coast, Phil decided to stay in the Windy City …
Mean while the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble were growing, the work of Phil as an activist and music educator has created a place called the Ark of the Sun in a warehouse behind the family home above a furniture store.
They used to go to bed, listening to there father rehearsal with his band Circle Of Sound and wake up at 6 am to study music before going to class (and apparently, his father used should be must be very rigid with the class!)
As young guys, listened to Public Enemy, Eazy-E, NWA a great reference for them and of great importance for the formation of the band … They came to form a group at the time when they were very young …
At the end of 90′s and after all of then had already finished their studies, decided to take all of the jazz and black music influences of there father plus all the passion for rap, and form the band. They touring around Chicago’s Train Stations …
The name came after a guy in a suit that had missed the train a few times, watched them play for hours and said, “Dude, you hypnotized me!” Out of blue, appeared the name Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.
After that they decided to move to New York and record their first album in 2004.The Mesmerizing Band came touring alongside with Mos Def, Erykah Baduh, Aquilla Sadalla, Phil Cohran, The Recipe, Nomadic Massive, and Tony Allen at the North Sea Jazz Festival . In 2007 they recorded with Erykah Badu and Maxwell. There presentations trough Europe in 2005 were hot! Becoming the darlings of opinion formers on the old continent!
In 2009 they supported the band Blur in two concerts at the Hyde Park. And in the final disk Plastic Dreams, Gorillaz collaborated on several tracks.
There are 11 recorded lps in 7 years of career, including CD-Rs, vinyl, cd, ep and compact 7.10 and 12 inch, and a live disc.
In my opinion, one of the most original and creative bands of recent times, long live the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble!

These are some of the finest works produced in 2011, their colors will brighten our day.
Françoise Nielly’s painting is expressive, exhibiting a brute force, a fascinating vital energy. Oil and knife combine tsculpt her images from a material that is , at the same time, biting and incisive, charnel and sensual. Whether she paints the human body or portraits, the artist takes a risk : her painting is sexual, her colors free, exuberant, surprising, even explosive, the cut of her knife incisive, her color pallet dazzling.
