Lamborghini confirms they will produce the Urus

When the Urus was first introduced it was said it wouldn’t be produced, because Volkswagen, which is the owner of Lamborghini, already builds the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg and soon will manufacture the Bentley EXP 9 F and the Audi Q8. After a while, things changed when a few patents appeared on the web, but only now we know for a fact that this model will see the daylight.

During the presentation of the Lamborghini Egoista, Harry Metcalfe, talked with someone from the Sant’ Agata company that confirmed the Urus will enter production in 2017. It should share its platform with the next-generation Audi Q7 and the Bentley EXP 9 F. This won’t be the first time the Italian company produces a SUV. They made the LM002 from 1986 to 1993, and only 328 were fabricated. Thanks to Harry Metcalfe and automonthly for the news.

Vivienne Westwood Designs Virgin Atlantic Uniforms

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD has redesigned Virgin Atlantic’s famed red uniforms. Over 7,500 members of staff, including cabin crew, pilots, Clubhouse staff and Virgin Holidays employees, will wear the new ensembles – which will make their debut for the first time from July 2013, before the official launch in 2014.

Both Westwood and Virgin Atlantic president Richard Branson are committed to original design and sustainability – a key focus of the collaboration. The pair first met through the designer’s ex-husband Malcolm McLaren, who Branson knew from signing the Sex Pistols to his record label.

“My clothes have always got a very strong dynamic rapport with the body – they are very body-conscious, they help you to look glamorous, more hourglass, more woman,” said Westwood. “I design things to help people to hopefully express their personality. I am always trying to find fabrics that are more friendly to the environment – working with Virgin Atlantic they managed to research into this and find more eco fabrics.”

The uniforms are made using recycled materials – including polyester yarn that originated from plastic bottles and canvas created from reused roadside banners and leather off-cuts – and also incorporate Westwood’s well-tailored, figure-hugging signatures.

“Virgin Atlantic has a distinct spirit and from a design perspective we continually try to challenge the norm and stand out from the crowd,” said Branson. “Our current uniform has been around for more than 10 years and we have seen other airlines start to copy it. When we were choosing the designer for this project, we wanted to work with a group of people who share our spirit of adventure, who believe in challenging the status quo and creating something truly memorable.” Thanks to Ella Alexander and vogue.co.uk for the news.

Daft Punk – Get Lucky ft. Pharrell Williams (First Live Performance HD @ HTC live)

First Live Performance of Get Lucky by Pharrell Williams @ HTC Live New York 4/19/2013

The track is a collaboration between all four. The song is credited to all four people. Listen carefully and you will hear trademark Daft Punk basslines and other flourishes. Add the rhythm guitar of dance legend Nile Rodgers. All that was missing was some cheeky lyrics from Pharrell. We counting the days until the album release.

Nile Rodgers, he pioneered his own ‘funky’ disco sound back in the 70′s with Chic which pretty much influenced the early hip hop scene, produced and worked with some of the greatest Pop artists in the 80′s and 90′s and throughout his long career. And now collaborating with Daft Punk to make electro music. Nile Rodgers is a living legend!

Pentateuque by Fabien Merelle

The work of French artist Fabien Mérelle involves creative combinations of dreams, experiences, and his early childhood imagination. He blurs the line between reality and fiction and his bio states: “Following the unrolling of a dream, playing with the free association of shapes and ideas, he seems to say that everything is transforming, metamorphing, opening itself to the most diverse interpretations.”

Titled ”Pentateuque”, the piece is a whimsical sculpture that depicts a man, balancing the weight of an elephant on his back. It is made out of resin, paint, hair and fabric, and stands only 30 x 27 x 12 inches. The three dimensional form is a replica of the artist’s original Pentateuch 2010 ink drawing, both of which visually interpret the phrase “carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.” Pentateuque was recently exhibited at the 2013 Art Stage Singapore international art fair.

This couch comes with a professionally engineered frame with the highest quality springs so we know it is ultra-comfortable. The Camouflage Chesterfield Couch by CoCoCo Home actually has a bit of charm about it.”  Made in North Carolina.

Dolk Lundgren, or simply Dolk (Norwegian for dagger/knife), is a Norwegian stencil artist whose work has rapidly gained popularity since first being introduced to the masses via Wooster Collective (street works) and Pictures on Walls (POW) (commercially available prints).

His “official” biography, courtesy of POW, stated, “The premier stencil artist in Norway and wise beyond his years, Dolk has been voted ‘most likely to succeed’ by his classmates at vandal school.” POW went on to say, “Direct from Bergen, Norway we present Dolk Lundgren. An exciting new artist who lists amongst his hobbies ‘sex, sex, and vandalism’.” Dolk’s profile from Stencil Revolution lists his occupation as “fluffer” and states his interests as “stencils, painting, exploring, sex.”

Strand Craft Expands its Luxury Fleet with New Stand Craft 166 Megayacht

How will the neighbors at the marina ever know that you’ve got a world-class supercar if you have to keep it tucked away in the garage while you’re out sailing the Mediterranean? The shipwrights at Strand Craft have the perfect solution. Earlier this year we brought you plans for the Strand Craft 122, and followed that with particulars of its availability. Now the shipyard has returned with an even bigger, more impressive design.

Meet the Strand Craft 166, a modern yacht that comes with its very own high-horsepower supercar tucked in the aft. The wheeled machine in question will reportedly wield a 620-horsepower V8, and Stand Craft claims that the vehicle will clip off a top speed of 189 mph. Of course, you could order your own choice of hot wheels be it Koenigsegg, Maybach, Lamborghini or a Ferrari.

It’s a fitting trinket to go along with a yacht that packs a hidden Jacuzzi tucked into the bow, a retractable fly bridge that tucks away the ship’s radar arrays when not in use and a whopping total of five state rooms. Each of the suites is loaded with 52-inch Bang & Olufsen TVs with iPad controls.

The power behind this creation is astonishing. It uses two MTU 20V4000 M93L, turbocharged V20 diesel engines, each outputting 4300kW, and, an additional Vericor TF50 gas turbine booster engine supplementing 4177kW. So all up, the SC166 superyacht offers 12777kW of power. Strangely, the top speed offering isn’t all that great, just 40 knots (74km/h).

The SC 166 comes with the option of having upholstery made from an exclusive Japanese Samurai tread leather. These custom designed leathers are woven from a bullet-proof textile made of Vectran fibres. Optionally all walls can be covered in Samurai leather to make it a bullet proof yacht.

A Grey Design press release recently summed it up perfectly, saying: Her low stance, enormous length and curled haunches give this vessel a dynamic aesthetic that is guaranteed to turn heads in the the most well appointed marinas. It sure would.

Transformer – Reuse, Renewal and Renovation in Contemporary Architecture

This visually stunning new title is dedicated to the seemingly magical transformation of spaces and structures. It covers an amazing range of residential and commercial architecture as well as large-scale urban renewal, showcasing projects that frequently cross functional boundaries.

The dramatic scope of the renovations included in this title give the reader a visceral shock to the system: an office auditorium converted into an urban oasis, an old airplane repurposed into a must-visit hostel, and 19th century ruins updated to become a modern family home.

Some transformations not to be missed include The Alan Voo House in Los Angeles, which doubled in size from a 1,000 square foot residence to a 2,000 square foot residence through the insertion of a new 16ft linear house into the existing house (Neil M Denari Architects Inc); or the refurbishment of a 1975 office building in Mexico City into a residential block with 23 apartments. Its main and rear facades having been replaced with a chopped metal facade in the style of the Mexican handcraft papel picado, creating a liveable artwork (Hierve-Disenaria Architects).

Other works include an alpine hut conversion in Slovenia, Blue Frog Lounge in Mumbai; and the Jumbo Hostel in Stockholm.

Time Magazine : Gay Marriage Already Won

Eager to be eyewitnesses to history, people camped for days in the dismal cold, shivering in the slanting shadow of the Capitol dome, to claim tickets for the Supreme Court’s historic oral arguments on same-sex marriage. Some hoped that the Justices would extend marriage rights; others prayed that they would not. When at last the doors of the white marble temple swung open on March 26 for the first of two sessions devoted to the subject, the lucky ones found seats in time to hear Justice Anthony Kennedy — author of two important earlier decisions in favor of gay rights and likely a key vote this time as well — turn the tables on the attorney defending the traditionalist view.

Charles Cooper was extolling heterosexual marriage as the best arrangement in which to raise children when Kennedy interjected: What about the roughly 40,000 children of gay and lesbian couples living in California? “They want their parents to have full recognition and full status,” Kennedy said. “The voice of those children is important in this case, don’t you think?” Nearly as ominous for the folks against change was the fact that Chief Justice John Roberts plunged into a discussion of simply dismissing the California case. That would let stand a lower-court ruling, and same-sex couples could add America’s most populous state to the growing list of jurisdictions where they can be lawfully hitched.
