The 2015 Aston Martin Lagonda Hit The Web

The first Lagonda since the William Towns-designed wedge of the 1970s and ‘80s is currently undergoing final testing in the extreme heat of Oman, ahead of a market launch next year.

But Aston Martin isn’t launching a standalone Lagonda brand as it had hoped to only a few years ago; instead, the British automaker is using the Lagonda name and badge exclusively for a new sedan that will only be offered to customers in the Middle East.

New images of the sedan have just been released by Aston Martin, which show the exterior in great detail but keeps the interior hidden.

The Lagonda is based on the bones of Aston Martin’s Rapide and shares that model’s 6.0-liter V-12 engine, although power may be uprated beyond the 552-horsepower rating of the 2015 Rapide S. Drive is to the rear wheels only, via an eight-speed automatic.

The body is made almost entirely of carbon fiber, while underneath sits a chassis that’s mostly extruded aluminum. The new Aston Martin Lagonda will be largely built by hand, by a team of craft builders at Aston Martin’s main facility in Gaydon, England—in the same building previously used for the One-77 hypercar’s construction, in fact.

There’s no word on pricing yet but Aston Martin says the Lagonda’s positioning “will be commensurate with the car’s exclusivity, quality and luxurious nature.” Considering the car will be available via invite only, it’s likely the final price tag will be exceeded only by the One-77’s sticker.

Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2015.
